    Able Children

We stretch and challenge pupils by setting high standards and expectations in the classroom with appropriate work and careful monitoring of progress.

Our most able children are set challenging targets at both Key Stages and experience a distinct teaching and learning programme to allow them to fulfil their potential.

There have been many opportunities for able pupils to be supported and extended. Here are some recent examples.

    • Each department targets able pupils through challenging, interesting and enjoyable cross-curricular projects and clubs
    • Pupils who are talented at music, sports and the performing arts have been provided with individual support through extra-curricular enrichment activities and educational visits
    • Pupils have competed in the Sefton Maths Challenge and World Maths Day
    • Pupils have participated in North West G&T challenge workshops at other schools
    • Summer Schools at Universities including Liverpool, Lancaster and Keele
    • A/A* revision master classes
    • A-level taster days at South Sefton Sixth Form College

Pupils are assessed as they work through their various lessons and set individual targets that we believe are challenging yet realistic. Through our monitoring of their progress and our encouragement of their talents we are determined to see more and more children experience success in their public examinations and in their future careers.
