At Hillside, we believe that creative expression is vital to the development of every child. Expressive and performing arts enable pupils to develop social and technical skills. Pupils who are encouraged to express themselves creatively gain confidence and experience a real sense of achievement.
Through Dance, Drama and Music pupils can challenge their own expectations, gain confidence and be inspired, enabling them to feel valued and successful.
In Dance, Drama and Music, we will enable pupils to achieve by:
- delivering a rich, dynamic curriculum taught by specialist teachers
- ensuring maximum opportunity for pupils to experience live performances and work with artists and practitioners
- developing and extending their skills through extra curricular opportunities.
The Performing Arts department at Hillside encourages all pupils to feel included. Our work extends beyond the curriculum and pupils have a wide range of opportunities to act and develop more complex theatre skills, visit the theatre and enjoy links with both Everyman Playhouse Theatres and LIPA.
In Music, pupils can learn to play a wide variety of musical instruments, receive specialist tuition from visiting music teachers, access music from other cultures and join a range of specialist instrument clubs. We have strong links with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and pupils are able to enjoy performances and workshops as a result of this connection..
Dance is an active part of the arts curriculum and is enjoyed both by boys and girls. Pupils are able to take part in festivals, work with specialist practitioners, learn dances from other cultures and join the after school dance club.
All Performing Arts subjects are available to take at GCSE.
