Clubs at Hillside

There is a wide range of club activities available at Hillside. Some activities take place at lunchtime and some take place after school. Pupils will have the opportunity to involve themselves in many different activities.

Below is the list of clubs which are available this year. Speak to your subject teacher for more information.

At Hillside we are always keen to listen to pupils’ opinions. If anyone has ideas or suggestions for a club or activity then they can make suggestions through the School Council meetings.

The Ancients - Learn about the lives of people in the distant past, (Aztecs, Incas, Egyptians, Greeks) as well as some archaeology Art Club Develop your ideas and skills further after school

Computer Club - Use a wide range of computer programs

Choir - Meet at lunch time with extra rehearsals before performances. Sing out and enjoy!

Drama Club - Provides a large number of other extra-curricular drama opportunities. Pupils can enjoy themselves whilst improving their performance skills.

“Eco” Club - An opportunity help with projects in Oxford House and Derby Park as part of our engagement with the community and local environment.

Film Club - Hillside brings alive the world of the cinema.

Library Club - (Morning) From 8.00am – 8.40am every day. It provides pupils with the opportunity to play games and meet with friends. A Teaching Assistant is available between these times to help pupils with homework or to talk to them about various matters.

Library club (Homework) - Open to all students from Monday to Thursday after school until 4:30pm and until 4:00pm on Friday. The Librarian is available if pupils need any help.

International Club - This runs on Wednesdays and encourages pupils to see themselves as part of the global community

Literacy Club - This is run by Miss Moulden on a Wednesday from 3-4pm for Year 7’s. It involves reading and writing activities and games.

Maths club This club gives pupils the chance to learn to love maths!

Modern Language You have the chance to practise French or Spanish. Pupils will Clubs find out more about life in France and/or Spain and may even get to taste some French or Spanish food. There are also taster clubs in Italian, German and Polish for interested pupils.

Music Club Various musical activities are available during lunchtime and after school which give pupils the opportunity to learn new instruments or to carry on playing instruments already learned. They can join the recorder or guitar group, the keyboards group, come along to the Samba drums group, or join the choir. There are also opportunities to take part in extra-curricular music lessons which include woodwind, drums, brass and piano lessons.

Science Clubs A range of activities which focus on enjoyable and exciting science projects, including:

  • Christmas activities
  • STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths, which runs “Beauty”, looking at the science behind beauty products and make-up, and “Fashion”, making fashion wear from scrap paper and plastic bags
  • “Lights, Camera Action”

Sports Clubs - These include football (boys and girls), hockey, athletics, netball, basketball, rounders, trampolining, dance, Hillside dance troupe ‘Fusion’, gymnastics, rugby, handball, Thai boxing, inclusive sports, table-tennis, yoga and fitness . Badminton Club takes place every Thursday after school. All pupils are welcome. There are also several after-school PE and fitness activities.
