8th May 2024
Dear Parent/Carer,
External GCSE exams commence for all pupils on Thursday 9th May 2024 and run up until Thursday 20th June 2024 which is the last year 11 exams. On Friday 14th June 2024 following the physics examination all Year 11 pupils will enjoy their Leavers’ afternoon tea in the Drama Hall and will leave school at the slightly later time of 3.30 to 4.00pm. This will give us the opportunity to say farewell to them. Please note some pupils will still have examinations the following week so it is important to check your child’s individual timetable. Each pupil has an individual timetable informing them of when each of their exams takes place.Pupils are expected to be in school every day up until the date of their last exam on Friday 14th June 2024 even if they do not have an examination on a particular day.
Please could you read over the excerpt below from our exams policy to ensure that both you and your child are fully aware of the rules and regulations for the exam season. The centre's published rules on acceptable dress, behaviour and pupils' use of mobile phones and other electronic devices apply at all times. These rules are located outside of the examination hall.
Attendance and Punctuality During Exams
Pupils should arrive to school at the normal time each day at 8.20am. Morning examinations begin at 9.00am and afternoon examinations begin at 1.00pm.Should a pupil be absent from an exam due to illness, suffering a bereavement or other trauma then it is the pupil’s responsibility to alert the school before the examination is due to commence. The pupil must also provide evidence to support their absence for example by providing a letter from the pupil’s doctor. If pupils do not alert school prior to the exam that they will not be attending, please be aware that there will be a charge for the full cost of the exam entry for the pupil.
Also, each awarding body sets out its own rules with regards to lateness to an exam and in some cases, in extreme lateness a pupil may not be allowed to sit an exam. Without prior notice that a pupil will be late for an exam or without special consideration evidence, a charge for the exam entry will be incurred.
Examination clashes - If there is an examination clash, exams will be sat one after the other. The Examinations Officer will be aware of this situation and will speak to any pupil concerned.
Uniform during the exams period - Pupils are expected to wear full school uniform throughout the exams period including blazers and appropriate footwear.
