The Catering Staff work very hard to maintain a high standard of meals using the best quality ingredients. Our kitchen has the highest Environmental Health (5) food hygiene rating.
The Dining Hall operates a cashless system whereby meals are paid for with credits using a biometric system. Money can be credited to accounts using an on line system called Parent Pay, this allows parents to see what their child has eaten and saves looking for cash in the morning! Meals can also be paid for using the revaluation machines at the front of school.
The dining hall is open for break between 10.00am and 11.15am and for lunch between 12.15pm and 13.45pm. Please find below a range of sample menus for various times during the day. At Hillside we are proud of the service we provide, healthy food that pupils love to eat.
If you wish your child to bring a packed lunch, this can be eaten in the Old Gym or on the picnic benches outside. Fizzy drinks are not allowed at Hillside. Cold filtered water is always available in the dining room and in other locations around school and we encourage pupils to drink water throughout the day. Please try to give your child a healthy lunch each day and encourage them to eat fruit rather than sweets. At Hillside we operate a Stay on Site Policy. The lunch break is short and the school is surrounded by very busy roads. We find that pupils are happy to relax on site with their friends.
If you think you qualify for free school meals please contact: Mrs McPoland, Assistant Bursar here at school and she will advise you. All applications are treated in the strictest confidence, over 30% of our students are eligible for free meals but with the cashless system in use nobody is aware of who is on free meals. Please claim if you are eligible as it helps us to access other funding and if you are unsure don’t hesitate to contact us for confidential advice and guidance. Or contact the Pupil Support Section of the Local Authority on 0151 934 3456 who will check your eligibility and if eligible your details will be taken and your children will be put on free school meals within the week. Alternatively you can complete form B1 and send to the School Admissions and Pupil Support Section, Town Hall, Bootle, L20 7AE
